Benson Boffo In Gymnastics Opener

Courtney Benson made her presence felt quite a bit in Hamline's inaugural gymnastics meet of the year. Benson narrowly finished second in the All-Around competition with 36.500 points. Hamline placed third in the four-team field with 172.100 total points. Benson won the Floor Exercise competition with a score of 9.450. She finished third in the Uneven Parallel Bars and fourth in the Vault competition. She was also the only Piper to crack the Top Ten in the Balance beam, finishing in a tie for ninth place.

Jaclyn Clement had the next best HU finish with a fifth place effort in the Uneven Parallel Bars and a sixth place in Floor Exercise. Rebekah Smith and Murielle Mischook were ninth and 10th in Floor Exercise.

UW-LaCrosse, the host school, had two teams in the competition. The Maroon team won with 176.425 points. Winona State edged HU for second place with 172.200 points.

Hamline's next meet will be at home January 8 when UW-Whitewater, Gustavus and UW-Stout are at Hutton Arena for a 1:00 p.m.
