Schneekloth Superb But Women Pucksters Drop Season Opener

It was the type of performance a former goalie could really appreciate. Second HU head coach Steve DeBus, a former Division I goalie, had to like what he saw from  goalie Sarah Schneekloth (Jr., Marshall, Minn.). She stopped 33 shots and helped her team enter the third period of their season opener at Wisconsin-Superior Friday night in a 1-1 tie. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets broke the logjam with four goals and skated off with a 5-1 decision.

Seanna Robinson (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba) gave the Pipers a lead in the second period when she converted feeds from Sam Weesner (Chicago, Ill.) and Laura Randall (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) at 8:40. But UWS tied it before the end of the period and then broke the game open in the third period. Two of the four UWS goals in the fatal final frame came on the power play. HU was outshot 38-10 for the game. Robinson and Jackie Brigl (Roseville, Minn.) led the HU offense with two shots apiece.

The teams meet again Saturday afternoon.
