Hamline's women soccer team found itself in a hole early and couldn't get out of it Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph. The Pipers surrendered two goals in the first 17:44 of play and that was enough to send them to a 2-0 loss at the feet of first place Saint Benedict. Hamline fell to 4-4-2 in the MIAC and 9-5-3 overall. The Pipers were only outshot, 7-6, but failed to score against CSB goalie Megan Favorite. Liz Stock (Sr., Savage, Minn.) had five saves for HU. Aileen Scheibner (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) and Natalie Cooper (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) each had a pair of shots on goal.
Four of the team's five losses this year have come when the Pipers were blanked.
Having clinched a winning record, HU will look to have a winning conference season for the first time in school history (and their first 10-win season since 2007) when they host St. Catherine's Saturday at Paterson Field in the season finale. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
