Volleyball Team Sweeps Scots

The scores looked eerily familiar. As has been the case most of the year, they were tough, close games. This time, Hamline's volleyball team found a way to walk out of Hutton Arena smiling. As it developed, it was two players who grew up 1866 miles from each other who played a big role as the Pipers swept Macalester, 3-0, Wednesday night. Stephanie Kaup (Fy., Chandler, Ariz.) and Paige Walters (Fy., Nevis, Minn.) had 10 kills apiece as HU claimed its first conference win in eight tries and improved the overall mark to 9-16.

Hamline's 25-22 win in game 1 was a come-from-behind affair. The Scots grabbed an early 6-1 lead only to see the Pipers roar back to take the lead. The Scots went on another run to lead 16-11. Then HU broke loose for eight straight points and went on to claim the win.

The Pipers never trailed en route to a 25-17 win in Game 2. Kaup, in particular, was in fine form, recording five kills in six attempts. The Scots jumped out to an early lead in Game 3 but the Pipers, who hit a solid .275 in the game and came back for a 25-23 decision to end the match. Sam Greeney-Hamlin (So., St. Cloud, Minn.), the team's one non-senior, had the last word, slamming her ninth kill of the night for the decisive point home before an appreciative crowd.

Sammie Miller (Fy., Grand Island, Neb.) served up 25 assists. Lacy Koss (Fy., Dodge Center, Minn.), Lynsey Reimer (Fy., Peosta, Iowa) and Frankie Miller (Fy., Grand Island, Neb.) had nine digs apiece.

The Pipers stay home this weekend, hosting St. Mary's in their last Hutton Arena match of the season Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
