Overtime hasn't been very kind to the Hamline men's soccer team this season. Michael Murphy (So., Mahtomedi, Minn.) 's goal with 22 minutes left in the second half erased an early deficit and forced a powerful St. Thomas into overtime on its home field. Unfortunately, the Tommies took it from there, scoring 80 seconds into the first extra frame to deal HU a tough 2-1 loss. Hamline fell to 2-7-2 overall, 0-3-2 in the MIAC.
UST scored an early goal and nursed the lead into the second half. But HU started to build consistent pressure, finding the back of the net when Murphy recorded his second goal of the year on a pass from Brian Stout (So., Lake Villa, Ill.). It stayed deadlocked at 1 until the Tommies scored 1:20 into overtime.
Spencer Von Behren (Jr., Bloomington, Minn.) was credited with three saves but took the loss.
Hamline returns home to host St. Mary's Saturday at Paterson Field. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
