Five individual players and the Hamline women's team have been named award winners by the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association.) The players were named to the All-Academic Team for Spring 2011. A player must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher to be honored. Kyle Helgemoe (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) was the men's winner. Kelsey Eatherington (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn.), Kristen Kiemele (Sr., Eagan, Minn.), Nicole Krier (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Anna Yarbrough (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) were the women winners. The Pipers were one of just three MIAC schools to have a team be named.
On the court, the Pipers will send several players to Gustavus this weekend for the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships. David Croonquist (Jr., North Oaks, Minn.) is seeded 17th in the main draw, which earned him a first round bye. Croonquist will play the winner of the match between Macalester's Evan Elderbrook and St. Norbert's Matt Lobeck.
Bernard Mitambo (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Robert Becker (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) will also compete in singles in the three-day event. HU will field three doubles teams as well. Croonquist and Becker will team up. Mitambo will team up with Connor Hart (Jr., Dellwood, Minn.) and Sam Teitelbaum (Sr., Afton, Minn.) will hook up with Andrew Lutz (Sr., Pine City, Minn.)
Hart, Teitelbaum, Lutz and Bob Johnson (So., Elk River, Minn.) are playing in the lower level Midwest Open main draw for singles. Lutz and Brendan FitzPatrick (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Dylan Sperry (So., Scandia, Minn.) and Tyler Antil (So., Fridley, Minn.) will play as double teams in the lower level doubles tournament as well.
