Hamline's women's soccer team will gets its sternest test yet of its lofty unbeaten status. The Pipers, whose 6-0-1 start is the best in school history (and a record unbeaten streak to boot), trek down Snelling Ave. to face Macalester, which enters the game with a 4-2-1 mark. Both teams are 1-0-1 in the MIAC. the game is available via a video link from Macalester.
The Pipers are coming off a record-setting 7-0 win at Crown Tuesday afternoon. HU fired a school record 49 shots on goal. They grabbed a 4-0 halftime lead and scored three more times in the first 13 minutes of the second half.
Look for a lot of shot attempts tonight. Hamline's average of nearly 19 shots attempts a game ranks second in the league to Bethel. The Scots are close behind in third place at nearly 17 shots a game. So far, the difference has been the accuracy of those attempts. Helped considerably by Tuesday's outburst, HU leads the league with 22 goals. The Scots have just four in seven games.
When it comes, though, to defense, both teams have been superb. Both teams have recorded five shutouts in seven games. The Scots have allowed just three goals, two of those in a 2-0 loss to a very good Loras team. HU has given up just two goals, one of which came on a penalty kick with three seconds remaining in the game at River Falls.
