It didn't take long for Hamline senior Jack Deichert to round into form. The Golden Valley, Minn. native topped the field and helped his team to a third place finish in the season opening meet. Deichert ran the four miles in 20:34, edging out Augustana's Mike Tisza by one second. HU's Devin Monson (Sr., Thompson, ND) was only three seconds back of Deichert and finished in third place. Ellis Richardson (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.) was 10th with a 20:49. Also scoring were Nate Dobbins (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) who was 31st and Chris Reisdorfer (Jr., Adrian, Minn.), who was 41st.

With 73 total points, HU finished third to UW-LaCrosse (66) and Augustana (67).

The Piper women finished in 11th place. Sara Holland (Sr., Dousman, Wis.) was the top finisher on the 5K course, coming in 30th with a time of 20:22. Carolyne Bocovich (Sr., Andover, Minn.) was 47th and Maria Theisen (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) came in 56th. Claire Walling (Jr., Clifton Park, NY) came in 73rd and Cassie Ernst (So., Eagan, Minn.) claimed 77th to round out HU's scoring.

Both teams return to action Sept. 24 at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational at the U of Minnesota.
