The 2012-13 year will be Drew Jones' fifth as the throws coach with the HU men's and women's track and field programs.In April, 2009, Jones became a full-time assistant coach with the Hamline men's and women's track & field programs after serving as an interim throws coach throughout the year.Jones works with both the men’s and women’s teams with an emphasis on throws. He also serves as a recruiter of new student-athletes and teaches in the physical education department.
In his four seasons overseeing the Piper throws program, he has coached 11 All-Americans, 47 All MIAC throwers, 109 additional conference point scorers, 16 MIAC champions, two conference record holders and two MIAC Field Athletes Of The Year winners. Additionally, four of his athletes have set new school records while they have hit four NCAA automatic qualifying marks and 22 NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
A four-year letterman with the Piper track and field team (and two years on the football team), Jones earned All-MIAC accolades in the shot put and weight throw. Additionally, Jones was an NCAA provisional qualifier in both events.
Jones is a Level 2 certified USATF throws coach. He graduated in 2007 from Hamline with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Jones and his wife,(Amanda '07 - also a former Piper thrower and their son Eli) live in Montrose, Minn.
