Three New Scholarships Created for MFAC Program

THREE NEW SCHOLARSHIPS CREATED FOR STUDENTS IN THE LOW-RESIDENCY MFA IN WRITING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS  

Walden Pond Press Scholarship in Middle-Grade Fiction and Nonfiction--$2,500

  Annual award given to a new or current student in the program who shows exceptional promise in the writing of middle-grade fiction or nonfiction. Editors at Walden Pond Press will select the winner of this annual award.

Anne Stickney Schmidt Scholarship in Young People's Literature presented by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company--$1,000

Annual award given to a new or current student in the program who shows exceptional promise in the writing of children's or young adult literature. Editors at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company will select the winner of this annual award. 

The "Anne Stickney Schmidt Scholarship" was created to honor Anne Stickney Schmidt and her many contributions to young people and to literature. Anne was the author of The Loving Arms of God and co-editor, with her husband, Gary D. Schmidt, of Acceptable Words: Prayers for the Writer, both published by W.B. Eerdman's Publishing Co. 

Vaunda Micheaux Nelson Scholarship presented by Lerner Publishing Group--$5,000

Annual award given to a new or current student in the program who shows exceptional promise as a writer of color.  Editors at Lerner Publishing Group will select the winner of this annual award. The winner will agree to submit his/her final manuscript to Lerner for publishing consideration.

The "Vaunda Micheaux Nelson Scholarship" was created to honor Coretta Scott King Award-winning author Vaunda Micheaux Nelson and her many contributions to diversity in children's books. Lerner Publishing Group celebrates diversity in children's books and is dedicated to growing awareness about diversity in publishing.
