Basford Presented at a Social Justice Curriculum Fair
School of Education Assistant Professor Letitia Basford recently presented at the Twin Cities Social Justice Curriculum Fair from a paper co-written by School of Education Professor Joe Lewis and student in the Master of Arts in Teaching program Bridget Borer, on the school-to-prison pipeline. The paper related the experiences of two bi-racial young men and their mother (one of the authors). The primary purpose of the presentation was to expose the institutional racism and classism that feed the school-to-prison pipeline and to illustrate impact on real people. With one of the young men who experienced the pipeline, Basford examined what K-12 schools and schools of education must do to resist and ultimately dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline.
