Men's Hockey Face Familiar Foe In Unfamiliar Situation

Zach Johnson STO

As first year head coach Doc DelCastillo is finding out, a MIAC schedule occasionally takes some unusual turns. One of those comes up Saturday, December 8 when the Pipers take on conference foe St. Thomas in a game that doesn't count in the league standings. The Pipers (0-10-2 overall) will meet the Tommies (6-5-1) at Thaler Rink in Mound, Minn.

Game time is 7:00 p.m.

It will be a homecoming for HU junior Zach Johnson (pictured), who grew up in the area and played many games in that rink as a youth and for Mound High School. Johnson has been one of the bright spots for the young Pipers. He has scored three goals and assisted on two others.

Last year, the Pipers battled the Tommies well but lost three one-goal games. Two of those were in overtime and the other game was decided in the final minute of play.

Hamline has one more game to play before breaking for the holidays. They will host Milwaukee School of Engineering at Vadnais Heights on Friday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m.
