The HU men's bb team shot and defended well enough to knock Augsburg out of the ranks of the unbeaten in the MIAC. But it is tough to overcome a 53-30 edge on the boards. As a result, Hamline took a 68-62 loss at Si Melby Hall in their last pre-holiday game. HU is 4-3 overall, 3-2 in the MIAC.
Dior Ford led the offense with 16 points and eight rebounds. Noah Aguirre added 11 points and Victor Easter contributed 10. The Pipers were at their annoying best all night, forcing Augsburg into 20 turnovers.
The first half was tight all the way with the Auggies taking a 29-28 lead in the final seconds of play. In the second half, Augsburg slowly worked the lead to 12 points with six minutes but the Pipers began to fight back and whittled the margin back to a pair at 64-62 when Ford drained a three-pointer with 58 seconds left.
But that was close as they could get. Augsburg scored the last four points to take the decision.
Hamline is now off until December 29 when they play at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. They face Whitworth on New Year's Eve.
