Women's Hoop Rally But Fall To UST

Hamline's women's basketball team put up an impressive defensive performance against league favorite St. Thomas Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena. Unfortunately, the Tommies' defense was just as good and they walked away with a 59-41 decision.

Steph Pilgrim (pictured) and Jordan Sammons had 11 points each for HU, which shot just 25 per cent from the field for the game. They held the Tommies to 41% shooting  and forced them into 23 turnovers but a 34-16 halftime hole was too much to overcome as the Pipers fell to 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the MIAC.

HU jumped to a 6-2 lead four minutes into the game only to see UST score 15 unanswered points to take control. The Pipers came out gunning at the start of the second half and chopped the margin to nine points at 38-29 but that was close as they would get.

Hamline resumes a busy slate Monday night when they travel to St. Mary's. Augsburg comes to Hutton Arena Wednesday and HU wraps up the week at Bethel December 8.
