It was the kind of breakout game Haley Johnson had been looking for. She had a goal and two assists as the Pipers jumped to an early lead before settling for a 4-4 overtime with St. Scholastica Tuesday night. Chelsea Koehn and Corinne Henning also had a goal and an assist for Hamline, which improved to 1-4-1 overall.
Johnson's goal 6:18 into the game gave HU the early lead in the game at Lakeview Arena. After the Saints tied the game in the second period, Ashley Maskel put the Pipers back ahead, 2-1. The Saints tied the game in the third period but goals by Koehn and Henning nine minutes apart gave Hamline a 4-2 lead.
Unfortunately, the Saints came back for two goals in the final minute of the game to force overtime. HU was outshot, 4-1, in the extra five minute session but goalie Caitlin Nosanov (pictured), who finished the night with 43 saves, held firm for the tie.
Hamline returns to MIAC play this weekend with a series against St. Olaf. The teams play in Northfield Friday at 7:30 p.m. and have a rematch set for Warner Coliseum Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
