Caracciolo Nets Pair But Women's Soccer Loses In 2 OT

Kelsey vs. Superior

It was a memorable farewell home game for HU senior Kelsey Caracciolo. Honored (with Emily Stein and Izzy Benjamin-Alvarado) before the game, Kelsey scored both Piper goals on a rainy afternoon. Unfortunately, Hamline's playoff hopes for 2012 were permanently dashed when St. Benedict took advantage of a loose ball and scored 5:01 into the second overtime for a 3-2 decision.

Caracciolo (pictured) got the Pipers off and running by finishing off a three-way play for her 7th goal of the season at 29:01. The Blazers, who moved into second place with the win, tied matters seven minutes later and took the lead with 12:26 gone in the second half.

HU, however, made a determined charge, tying the game for a second time when Caracciolo corralled up her own rebound off an Aubrey Stenson feed for her second marker with 13 minutes to play in regulation time.

From there, Hamline aggressively pushed the play, outshooting CSB, 7-2, in the second 45 minutes of play.

But the Blazers got the last word despite five saves by HU GK Molly Jacobs. Hamline is 11-5-3 overall, 4-5-1 in the MIAC. The 11 wins has already established a new school record. The Pipers will look to make a dozen when they wrap up the season Saturday at St. Catherine's. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
