Piper Volleyballers Play Final Two Road Matches This Weekend

In many ways, it has been a successful 2012 volleyball season for the Pipers. But the icing on the proverbial cake could come this weekend when they play their final road tests of the year. HU takes a short trek down Snelling Ave. to face Macalester Friday at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, they will take a longer drive down Highway 61 to face St. Mary's in a 3:00 p.m. start.

With a 17-9 overall mark, the Pipers are already guaranteed their first winning season since 2007. But a victory this weekend would officially double their total from 2011 and it would be the most triumphs by a HU volleyball contingent since the 1995 contingent posted a 19-20 mark. Unfortunately, the Pipers and Scots (who are 7-16 overall) share the same MIAC mark of 0-7.

This match has taken on an additional importance. It has been designated on the NCAA Division III Facebook page as one of three matches that could be potentially featured as the "Game Of The Week." Fans can vote to have the match get the extra attention by going to this link and casting a vote for it. A video and live stats feed is available (via Macalester's website) by clicking here

On Saturday, the Pipers meets a Cardinal team that stands 12-12 overall going into a Friday night home date with league leader St. Thomas. However, their 3-4 MIAC mark places them just a game behind Bethel for the sixth ... and final ... playoff position. A live stats feed for that match can be seen by clicking here.
