It is probably a good thing that Hamline's non-conference volleyball match against Luther starts at noon, an hour before the football and soccer games commence on campus. it may take longer for these teams to decide matters.
The Pipers (14-6 overall) and Norse (8-9) hooked up three weeks ago in a tournament at St. Catherine's. The result was a tiring five set affair that saw Hamline come away with a 3-2 win. The Pipers also won the stats battle by the barest of margins -- their combined edge for kills, assists and digs was four.
Both teams are coming off losses on Wednesday. Hamline started its day on the right foot with a solid 3-0 decking of North Central. In the evening, they stayed close to St. Catherine's in all three sets but ended up on the short side of a 3-0 decision. they will be looking to keep their perfect slate alive in non-conference matchups -- they are 14-0 in such events this year.
The Norse, who play at Augsburg on October 5, lost to Dubuque, 3-1 on Wednesday.
