Jacobs Superb in Goal In 1-1 Tie With Bethel

Hannah Plagman

Molly Jacobs stood tall in goal, particularly in OT, as Hamline's women's soccer team battled Bethel to a 1-1 tie at Paterson Field Saturday. Jacobs recorded 10 saves, including three in the extra 20 minutes as the Pipers improved to 4-4-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the MIAC.

Hannah Plagman (pictured right) gave HU an early lead with a nifty play for her first goal of the season. Plagman broke loose up the left hand side, worked past a defender and lofted a shot that deflected off the hands of BU goalie Callie Roseland and into the net at 9:05.

The 1-0 lead stood until the Royals' Suzette Anderson tied things with less than 12 minutes to play. That goal seemed to open play up and both teams had scoring chances as regulation time ran out. Although Jacobs had the only saves of the extra sessions, HU had a great chance midway in the first OT when Jordan Sammons drilled a shot through traffic that went just wide right. Jacobs took it from there, lowering her goals-against average to a miniscule 0.48.

Hamline remains home next week with a pair of games next week. Northwestern (MN) visits Tuesday, September  18 for a 5:00 p.m. The Pipers return to MIAC play Saturday, September 22 with a 1:00 p.m. game against Macalester.
