Letitia Basford, assistant professor in Hamline’s School of Education, published “Are Culturally Specific Charter Schools an Appropriate Means of Preserving Muslim Identity” in the latest edition of Debating Issues in American Education: A SAGE Reference Set (edited by Charles Russo and Allan Osborne). In Religion In Schools, Basford argues that the culturally specific charter school can promote positive intercultural competence where students are able to build a good self-concept and find comfort in who they are as Muslims and as Americans.
