Brendan Ruter (pictured at right) led the way as Hamline's men's cross country finished fourth in a field of eight teams at the 41st annual All-American Invitational meet in Decorah, Iowa.
The senior navigated the four mile course in 21:40 to finish in 16th place, edging out teammate Nathan Rock, who finished a respectable 18th place in his first college race. Rock and another first year runner,, Cole Konczal (who was 39th), were among the top five HU finshers. Nate Dobbins was 20th and Ryan Peterson came in 23rd for the tightly bunched HU contingent.
Emily Smith topped the women's team with a 36th place in the 5000 meter race. The sophomore's time of 20:08.09 was less than two seconds from cracking the top 30 in the prestigious race. Racing with just one senior on the team, Hamline finished in ninth place.
Both teams return to action September 21 at the Wis-Eau Claire Blue-Gold Invitational.
