Men's Soccer Picked For 10th In MIAC Preview

Preseason polls are often guesses. And this is particularly true when it comes to a team with a new coach and several new players. New HU head coach Alex Morawiecki, one of five new head coaches in the league, leads his charges into their first game on August 31 against Pacific Lutheran at Paterson Field.

His fellow coaches think the Pipers have some work to do to get back to the playoff level they were at when Morawiecki played here in the mid 2000s. Hamline was picked to finish in 10th place in the annual poll. The Pipers return a dozen players from the 2011 squad (including Brian Stout, pictured the ball at right), which finished 2-5-2 in MIAC play last year. After nearly a week of drills, Morawiecki said he was pleased with what he has seen so far. "They're working very hard and they are very receptive to what we are saying," he said.

After opening the season with four non-conference home games, the Pipers start MIAC play at Concordia Sept. 12
