Andrew Schlichting Named To All-Academic Track & Field Team

Andrew Schlichting

Andrew Schlichting is more than just a student of track and field. He is also one in the classroom. The North Oaks, Minn. native  has been named to the USTFCCA (United States Track & Field Cross Country Association) Division III All-Academic team. To make this prestigious contingent, one must carry a cumulative  GPA of 3.30 or better and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event.

It is the second All-Academic note for Schlichting. In may, he earned a spot on the COSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) District 6 All-Academic team

The Mounds View High School grad, who finished with a 3.88 GPA, threw the weight 60-8 to win the MIAC Indoor title in March. Once outside, he expanded his repertoire to throwing the hammer and the discus. His 178-2 hammer throw defeated the field at the MIAC Outdoor Meet in Moorhead in early May. His top effort of 182-6 recorded March 31 at St. John's was the second best throw by a MIAC athlete and the 25th best by any D-III athlete this spring. His top Discus throw of 135-8 ranked him 13th in the MIAC.

He was the only MIAC men's trackster to earn Athlete Of The Week honors in the Indoor and Outdoor seasons in 2012.

In addition to his track exploits at Hamline, Schlichting also played two years of football on the defensive line.
