Paul Schmaedeke, Becky Culp Honored By MIAC Coaches

The MIAC Track and Field coaches have confirmed what many HU folks know very well -- that Paul Schmaedeke can really coach and junior Becky Culp can really throw.

Schmaedeke, who was the conference's Coach Of The Year last fall when his cross country won their third straight title, was voted by his fellow coaches as the Men's Co-Coach Of The Year in Track and Field. The Pipers improved their point total from a year ago to 153 and finished in second place for the third year in a row at last weekend's meet in Moorhead. For Schmaedeke, it is his 12th Coach of the Year honor during his long career at HU. He has earned at least one for the last six years in a row.

Culp's Discus Throw of 146-6 not only won the MIAC meet last week. It moved her up to 10th in Division III in that department. She also won the Shot Put last weekend and ranks 19th in the country in that event (43 - 5 3/4 done March 17 in California)..
