Every inch counts. Hamline junior Becky Culp heaved the Shot Put 42-11 and that was enough to claim the title at the MIAC Track and Field Championships in Moorhead May 12. Culp, who was fifth in this event last year, threw the shot an inch and a half farther than she had done in the qualifying round and edged out St. Kate's Jamie Kelly, who went 42-8 3/4. Erin Urbanowicz finished seventh in the event.
It was the junior's second win of the weekend but the Piper women's team's lone win of the day. On Friday, Culp won the Discus Throw. (She also finished fourth in the Hammer.)
As a team, Hamline finished the meet in sixth place with 72 points.
Maria Theisen, a sophomore, had a busy day. She was third in the 1500 Meters (4:42) and came in fifth in the 800 Meters (2:19.08). The 4 x 100 team of Cassie Dudley, Keelie Sorensen, Adrianna Acosta and Alana Profit ran a close fourth place. Senior Kaitlyn Frenchick earned a sixth place nod in the 400 Meter Hurdles (66.09) and soph Heather Hollinger came in eighth in the 5000 Meters (18:49.25).
