Jordan Buck named MIAC Baseball Athlete Of The Week

The idea of a leadoff man is to get on base and make things happen. When that occurs, good things tend to happen to teams. Exhibit A -- Hamline OF/DH Jordan Buck -- did his job so well in the final week of the season that he has been named the MIAC Baseball Athlete Of The Week.

The junior from Apple Valley, Minn. went 8-for-13, a .615 batting average, with four runs scored as the Pipers won three of their final four games from St. Mary's and St. Olaf. Jordan had three doubles (.846 Slugging Ave.) with a pair of RBI and a pair of walks. He finished 2012 on a seven-game hitting streak that raised his average 63 points to .333, which tied him for the team lead among regulars. His numbers in MIAC games are even better. He led the League in On-Base Percentage (.556) and was second in Batting Average with a .440 mark.

Buck's closing act started with a 3-for-6 day against the Cardinals. with a couple of runs scored as HU split a pair of one-run games. He teed off against the Oles, going 5-for-7 as HU swept to 1-0 and 13-3 wins to wrap the season at 18-22 overall, 8-12 in the MIAC. In Game One, he knocked in the only run of the game with a RBI double. In Game Two, he had a pair of singles (including one in the eight-run fifth inning that blew the game open) and a double.
