Buck Has Big Day But Pipers Drop Pair To Cobbers

He is not your prototypical leadoff hitter. But you had to like the results. Jordan Buck moved to the head of the Piper baseball team's batting order Sunday and promptly went 4-for-8 with a pair of RBIs. Unfortunately, his teammates weren't quite as productive and the Pipers dropped a pair of close decisions to Concordia in Moorhead, 3-2, in nine innings and 2-1. Hamline is now 15-21 overall, 5-11 in the MIAC.

In the first game, HU rallied from an early deficit with single runs in the third and fifth innings. In the third, Ben Richardson doubled and scored when Buck was safe on an error. Two frames later, Richardson led off with a walk, was bunted to second by Cory Miler and strode home on Buck's double.

The Cobbers, however, rallied for a run in the seventh to tie the game and plated an unearned run in the ninth to decide matters. Dan Ellefson gave up just six hits in a complete game but took the loss.

In game 2, CC scored first on an unearned run in the second inning. Hamline fought  back in the fifth as Evan Cordell tripled and Buck sent him home with a single to tie the game at 1. CC regained the lead in the sixth. HU tried to rally in the seventh, loading the bases with one out. But they couldn't push the tying run home.

Hamline finishes up the season with a pair of doubleheaders at Midway Stadium this week. St. Mary's visits May 2 and St. Olaf is here on May 5. Both twinbills begin at 2:30 p.m.
