Pipers Claim Three Firsts at SJU Invitational

It was the first chance Hamline's men's team had to size up many local foes for the outdoor season. For the most part, the Pipers had to like what they saw. HU took three firsts and four seconds en route to finishing second at the SJU Invitational Saturday in Collegeville.

Jack Deichert copped the 1500 Meter title with a run of 3:58.94, edging out teammates Ryan Peterson (3rd) and Chris Reisdorfer (4th). Ben Johnson flew to a Triple Jump of 44-9, beating teammate Travis Latzke by nearly two feet. Christian Kibler came in fourth. Brennan McKeag won the Shot Put with a 52-2 1/2 effort, beating teammate Joe Morelli by over four feet.

Other Piper runner-ups included: Christian Willman,with a 50.88 clocking in the 400 Meters and Andrew Schlichting, who heaved the Hammer 182-6, just four inches shy of victory.

As a team, Hamline finished second with 139.5 points, defeating three MIAC foes and a Division II team in Concordia-St. Paul.

The Pipers' next action will be in their first home meet of the year next Friday, April 6.
