Steph Pilgrim probably didn't want the women's BB season to end. The HU junior lit up Leonard Center for a season high 25 points, including five three-pointers but the Pipers couldn't catch the Scots at the end and took a 72-67 loss. Hamline finishes the season 7-18 overall, 6-16 in the MIAC.
The Pipers were anxious to avenge a one-point loss to the Scots at home last month. The teams played a tight first half until Mac suddenly broke to a 38-28 lead with three minutes left in the half. As it turned out, that was the end of the scoring for the first session.
In the second half, HU cut the lead to a single point on three occasions but could never sneak ahead of the Scots. Mac eventually worked back to a 11-point lead and held on for the win despite the fact the Pipers connected on 11 3-pointers.
Pilgrim finished with 68 to easily lead the MIAC in that department. She came into the week No. 23 in all of Division III. Her Saturday effort was supplemented by Jordan Sammons, who finished with a dozen tallies, her 17th double digit effort in the last 18 games. The freshman ended up the team's leading scorer at 14.3 ppg.
Hamline loses just one senior -- Stephanie Rice -- off the team.
