Piper Women Pucksters Score First But Lose To St. Kate's, 4-1

Hamline's women's hockey team allowed three power play goals and that proved to be the difference in a 4-1 loss to St. Catherine at Mariucci Arena Saturday afternoon. Jordan Verleye's first period power play goal opened the scoring but it proved to be HU's only marker of the day.

The Wildcats came back for two goals in the second and third periods -- the last three of which came on the power play -- to sweep the series and drop Hamline to 8-13-2 overall, 4-11-1 in the MIAC. Nicole Jones recorded 41 saves for Hamline, 30 of which came in the last two frames.

Penalty problems were the story of the game. Hamline took eight minors to just three for the Wildcats.

The Pipers close out the season next week against St. Thomas. Seven seniors will play their final home game at Warner Coliseum Friday night. The teams also play at St. Thomas Arena in Mendota Heights Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
