Jones Stops 58 But Pipers Lose To GAC on Late Goal

Nicole Jones made a career high 58 saves but it was the one that got away that will haunt her and her Piper teammates. Gustavus Adolphus' Allie Schwab broke a 2-all tie with just 4:06 to play to send the Pipers to a 3-2 loss Friday night at Warner Coliseum. But Jones and her teammates could still leave the rink with their heads high.

The Mora, Mn native kicked out 1e shots in a 1-1 first period. GAC scored early but Haley Johnson tied things up at 14:53 on a power play. The Gusties scored on their first shot of the second period. Jones then swatted away the next 21 tries and the Pipers headed into the final frame down just 2-1.

The Gusties pushed hard for the goal to break it open but Jones came up with 24 more saves. Jessica Kraus brought the Warner Coliseum to its feet when she finished off a breakaway and tied the game at 11:13. But the relentless Gusties regained the lead on Schwab's goal and forced the issue the rest of the night to keep their unbeaten status in the MIAC.

Hamline, which saw its four-game winning streak end to fall to 8-8-2 overall, won't have to wait long for another shot at the league leaders. They will face the Gusties in St. Peter Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
