Swimmers Take 4th, 7th At St. Kate's

Hannah Hawker gave notice to the rest of the MIAC she ... and a few friends ... intend to be a factor at the conference swimming meet. The freshman took third place in the 100 Backstroke and fifth in the 200 Backstroke as the Pipers competed at the St. Catherine's Invitational Saturday. The women's team finished with 183 points, good for seventh place in a competitive field that included five other MIAC schools and UM-Morris and UW-River Falls. The men's team finished in fourth place with 222 points.

In addition to Hawker, Michelle Vargason finished fourth in the 100 Breaststroke. Ingrid Haugan had a career best when she scored 355.15 points to end up in sixth place in the 1-Meter Diving Competition. Haugan was third in the 3-Meter category.

On the men's side, Ben Smidt had the best finish, coming in fifth in the 200 IM in a time of 2:19.17. Zach Lameyer was sixth in the 1650 Freestyle, finishing directly ahead of teammate Corbin Conliffe.
