It was the sort of game that a good team finds a way to win. On a night when they were outshot, 28-22, Hamline made two firs period goals stand up for a 2-1 win over St. Benedict Friday night at Warner Coliseum. Jordan Verleye's team high seventh goal and Laura Randall's first exactly 14 minutes apart was all goalie Nicole Jones needed as the Pipers continued a string that has seen them lose just once in their last eight games. Hamline has won three games in a row (for the second time this season) and is 7-7-2 overall. Their MIAC mark is 3-5-1 is just one game out of the final playoff spot, currently held by St. Thomas (4-4-1).
The Blazers outshot the Pipers, 9-5, in that initial period but ended up behind 2-0. In the scoreless middle frame, Hamline turned the tables for a 10-6 edge. CSB scored seven minutes into the third period but Jones, who recorded 27 saves in all, kicked away 12 shots in the frame to gain the win.
They will go for a fourth straight conference win -- a feat that has never been accomplished by a Hamline women's hockey team -- Saturday at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud at 2:00 p.m.
