Brena Coyle, Shaise Schuette, Brennan McKeag
and other compatriots helped get the Hamline indoor track season off to a good start. The Piper men and women's team both finished a close second to host St. Olaf in the Triangular meet that also featured Carleton. But the team scores didn't interest the HU coaches as much as did the individual efforts. The women won five individual events and the men claimed four titles in the first action of the season against MIAC foes.
Coyle threw the Weight 17.21 meter to win the event by 2 1/2 meter over teammate Becky Culp
. The toss is a Personal Best and moved Coyle to No. 3 in the country in the early season rankings. Culp won her own title when she lofted the Shot Put 12.79 meters. Shawny Kramer
finished second (11.96m). In fact, HU claimed the first five spots in this event.
Other women's winners were Keelie Sorenson
(Triple Jump, 9.89m); Sophia Salmanpour
(60 meter Hurdles, 10.49); Christina Walker
(60 meter dash, 8.13 - the Pipers went 1-2-3-4-5 there) and the 4 x 400 Meter relay team (Sorenson, Walker, Emily Smith, Kaitlyn Frenchick)
, who bested Carleton by .28 of a second.
Schuette easily won the Pole Vault by going 4.79m, the 8th best effort of the young season for Division III. The Piper men winners were all in Field events. McKeag also started strong. He was a double winner, heaving the Weight 17.12m and the Shot Put 15.17m. Derrick Mora's
Long Jump of 6.53m bested teammate Amani Lee. Meet Results
