Piper Pucksters Power Past Augsburg, 3-0

This time, Hamline took advantage of their power plays. Brian Arrigoni and Cam Stowers had second period extra-man markers as HU defeated Augsburg, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Vadnais Heights Sports Complex. Jordan Van Gilder added a third period goal and Beau Christian recorded 35 saves for his seventh career shutout. The defending conference champ Pipers are 7-10-2 overall, 4-5-1 in the MIAC.

After a scoreless opening salvo, Arrigoni knocked home his league leading 12th of the season on a power play 32 seconds into the middle frame. Stowers made it 2-0 at 13:54. Van Gilder sealed the deal with his seventh of the year early in the final frame. Christian, who had 41 saves Friday night in a 2-2 OT tie, took it from there, handling a dozen shots flawlessly in the third period. In addition to their goals, Arrigoni and Van Gilder also had one assist each. Van Gilder remained tied for the league lead in overall points with 22, one more than Arrigoni.

The win moved Hamline into fourth place, one point behind co-second place teams Concordia and Bethel. The Royals play at St. Olaf tonight. Concordia lost 2-1 this afternoon to St. John's this afternoon. They play again Sunday in st. Cloud. The Pipers have more than a casual interest in that game. They face the Johnnies Thursday night in St. Cloud and Friday night in Vadnais Heights.
