Sammons Gets Double-Double But Piper Women Get Caught At End, 52-49

Kara Poirier scored 13 points and Jordan Sammons had a dozen points and an equal number of rebounds but the Piper women's BB team couldn't buy a basket at the end of the game and suffered a 52-49 defeat at St. Mary's Monday night. Hamline is now 4-10 overall, 3-8 in the MIAC.

The Pipers started strong, scoring the last four points of the half for a 27-20 intermission edge. They held the Cardinals at bay most of the second half, finally surrendering the lead at 51-49 with 2:52 left. HU missed three three-point tries, including two in the last 17 seconds. In addition to Sammons and Poirier, Je'Naya Brown had nine points and four steals.

HU returns home Wednesday to host Gustavus at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
