The good news is that Hamline's women's hockey team pushed its unbeaten streak to four games in a row with a 3-3 OT tie at Concordia (WI). The frustrating news is that it was almost a four-game winning streak. Playing two skaters short, HU allowed goal with 45 seconds remaining for the draw. Sarah Schneekloth was busy all day, making 41 saves. But the one that got away came with the Falcon goalie on the bench, making it a 6-on-3 in front of her. It was a wild scramble that saw the puck squirt over the goal line with Schneekloth stuck in the middle of a traffic jam.
The day started well. Corinne Henning scored for the fourth game in a row(on a feed from Jordan Verleye) 7:05 into the game. The Falcons rebounded to take a 2-1 second period lead but Verleye found Erin Kastner her second goal of the season to tie the game at 11:35.
Verleye took it upon herself to untie matters with her third netter of the year at 9:55. (Kastner and Henning drew the assists) That looked like it would be enough until the Pipers drew a pair of penalties 37 seconds apart.. The Falcons equaled matters for the last time. HU had a power play in OT and ended up firing 10 shots on goal in the five-minute session but to no avail.
Hamline is now 4-6-2 overall and plays St. Catherine's in a non-conference game next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
