Piper Rally Falls Short At Chapman

Mike Campbell poured in 18 points and added six steals but Chapman held off a late rally for a 79-65 victory Saturday afternoon in Orange, Calif. The decision snapped Hamline's three-game winning streak. HU heads into 2012 with a 4-5 overall mark. In addition to Campbell's effort, Dior Ford and Noah Aguirre added 11 points apiece. Levi Wenrich had four assists and moved into fifth place on the Piper's all-time career list with 228.

The Pipers fell into an early hole, trailing 38-28 at halftime. The margin stretched to 19 in the second half before HU, which shot 50 per cent from the field in the second half, began a spirited surge that eventually cut the margin to eight (69-61) with three minutes left. However, that was as close as HU could get. When the Pipers were forced to foul to try to get back in the game, Chapman (9-4) made all their shots, finishing 19 for 22 from the charity stripe for the game.

This was the Pipers' final non-conference game of the season. They will take a 2-2 record into MIAC play when they travel to Northfield to face Carleton January 4.
