Hamline's basketball teams may be a long way from home on Saturday. But you can still watch them as closely as if you were sitting in Hutton Arena. The Pipers make their annual trek to Moorhead Saturday to face Concordia. The women's team starts the afternoon twinbill with a 1:00 P.M. tipoff. The men's game follows roughly 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.

Both teams will have big challenges on their hands. The Piper women (2-3 overall, 1-3 MIAC) will be hoping to recoup the form they showed last Saturday when they unleashed a record-setting point performance in a 106-100 double OT victory over St. Catherine. It was the most points HU's women's team has ever scored in a MIAC game. Three players scored 25 points or more for HU. Unfortunately, the hot shooting didn't travel well and the Pipers have dropped road games this week at St. Thomas and St. Olaf. On Saturday, they will face a Cobber team that is 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the MIAC and leads the conference is Field Goal Defense at .324.
The women don't play next week. After Saturday, they return to action in the sunny climes of Daytona, Fla. on December 19 when they face Pacific (OR) in the opening round of a tournament. The Pipers will meet Lakeland (Fla.) on December 20.
The men (2-4 overall, 1-2 MIAC) are coming off their most complete effort, a solid 81-64 thumping of St. Olaf Wednesday night at Hutton Arena. The Pipers ran out to a big halftime lead and kept after the Oles the rest of the night, leading by as many as 23 points in the late going. Mike Campbell fired in a season-high 26 points for Hamline. The Cobbers are 3-4 overall, 2-1 in the MIAC. But they have only played two home games, winning both of them. They showed a balanced offense with five players in double digits in a 85-78 win over St. Mary's.
The men will play CalTech in a non-conference affair at Hutton Arena on Tuesday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. They have one more game after that in 2011 -- on December 31 at Chapman (Calif.).
Both teams return to conference play January 2 against Augsburg.
