Women's Hockey Rally Falls Short To Bethel, 2-1

The Piper women pucksters found their shooting range in the third period Saturday night against Bethel. Unfortunately, BU goalie Jess Newstrom was up to the affront, making 15 saves, sending Hamline to a tough 2-1 loss at Warner Coliseum.

Hamline outshot Bethel, 31-24, for the game but two power play goals did them in. The Royals scored one in each of the first two periods against HU goalie Sarah Schneekloth (who had 22 saves of her own) for a 2-0 second intermission edge.

The final frame belonged totally to Hamline. Jordan Verleye's shorthanded goal at 12:48 of the period halved the Royal lead. Two more power plays gave the Pipers hope but Newstrom held them off. HU fell to 1-6-1 for the season, 0-5-1 in the MIAC.

The Pipers will not play a league game for seven weeks. But they are not on holiday break yet. They will host Marian in a two-game set next weekend at Warner. Game time Friday night is 7:00 p.m. Saturday's rematch is at 2:00 p.m.
