Mens' BB Hot Start Not Enough To Handle Gusties

Great start. Tough finish. In a nutshell, that describes the Piper men's basketball MIAC opener Wednesday night against Gustavus. Hamline led much of the first half, shooting nearly 55 per cent from the field and grabbing a 38-37 advantage at intermission. But, as snow flurries whipped around outdoors, the HU shooters went cold inside as we.. As a result, Hamline dropped their MIAC opener, 73-60, to Gustvaus at Hutton Arena.

Al Tillman and Brandon Rieg led the HU offense with 11 points each. Mike Campbell had another strong effort on the boards with a team high six rebounds. But HU was just 7-for-26 from the field in the second half and the Gusties (2-1) pulled away in the final minutes. HU fell to 1-3 overall on the season.

The Pipers get a chance to take a deep breath before heading into a busy stretch of games. Defending NCAA Division III champ St. Thomas visits Hutton Arena to kick off a four games in eight days skein. St. Olaf is here a week from tonight. On December 10, Hamline visits Concordia in Moorhead. The string wraps up with a non-conference affair against CalTech at Hutton on December 13.
