Silvester Vicic, a nationally-acclaimed radio producer and media trainer, harnesses his passion for music and dedication to teaching and learning into his job as director of Hamline University’s Sundin Music Hall.

His efforts are elevating the already strong reputation of the university’s Sundin Music Hall and exposing faculty, staff, students, and the local community to some incredible musical artists. The hall increasingly attracts world-renowned musicians and hosts competitions that are watched internationally.

“It’s my mission to host performances at Sundin that you would normally have to go to a downtown concert hall to see,” Vicic said. “We’re bringing the musical world to Hamline.”

This year, the music hall has hosted many high-profile musicians, including the first-ever solo recital of critically-acclaimed trumpeter Manny Laureano and an exclusive performance by cellist Joe Johnson, who hails from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

“We also continue to host the e-Piano Junior Competition, which brings together some of the world’s most talented young pianists,” Vicic said. “The performances were streamed lived internationally.”

Vicic has solidified Sundin’s reputation as a distinguished venue by branding it as a performer- and audience-friendly music hall with excellent customer service and available services. He has also launched several regular events, including the free-to-all “Lunch with…” series featuring classical artists in the Hamline community and from abroad.

When it’s not being used for performances, Sundin also hosts a plethora of Hamline events including admissions days, guest lectures, and orientation functions.

The future of Sundin Music Hall is bright, with Vicic already planning new events and musical opportunities for the Hamline community to experience. Among them is an emerging artists series, which would provide a space for the next generation of musicians to make their debuts.

“I want our facility to be a springboard for the up-and-coming performers. Some day when they’re famous, people will say ‘I remember when they played at Sundin!’, Vicic said.
