Women's Hockey Loses Tough 1-0 Game At St. Mary's

It was the type an ex-Division I goalie like HU women's coach Steve DeBus could appreciate ... but not like the result. HU goalie Nicole Jones kicked out 21 shots and only had one elude her all night in the conference opener in Winona against St. Mary's. Unfortunately, her counterpart kicked out 21 shots and none got by her ... and that was the difference in a 1-0 loss to the Cardinals.

Jessica Kraus had five shots on goal herself but the Pipers were shut out for the first time this season and fell to 1-2-0 overall. HU have up the goal (10 minutes into the game). After that, there was little to choose from the rest of the night. In the third period, Hamline held a 9-6 edge in shots on goal (Kraus produced three)  but could not score.

The teams will face each other again Saturday night at Drake Arena on the St. Paul Academy campus. Game time is 7:00 p.m. It is the only game the Pipers will play at Drake this season. Next week, they move into their regular home ice, Warner Coliseum.
