Greg Northrop didn't make to the end of the soccer season due to injury. But he made a favorable impression on MIAC coaches while he was in there. Northrop, a sophomore midfielder from Arden Hills, earned a Honorable Mention on the All-Conference team released today by the league. An injury knocked ended his season after just 12 games. During that time, though, he scored three goals and assisted on another. He also led the Pipers in Shots On Goals percentage with an .833 mark. (10 for 12 attempted).
He picked his spots well for goals. His first goal of the year was the only marker in a 1-0 win over Northwestern (MN). Later, he broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the first minute of the second half in what proved to be a 2-1 win over St. Mary's.
The Mounds View High School grad was one of two sophs earning post-season attention. Michael Murphy, a sophomore from Mahtomedi, MN who also ended up the Pipers' leading goal scorer with four, was named to the Sportsmanship Team.
