Hamline University is pleased to
announce the release of 2011
Water~Stone Review (Volume 14), a
publication filled with poetry, short stories, essays and writers’ interviews
from emerging, mid-career and established writers from Minnesota and across the
nation.
The public is invited to
celebrate the
Water~Stone Review release at a reading and reception on
Hamline’s Saint Paul campus. The event takes place at Sundin Music Hall, 1531
Hewitt Ave, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011. Excerpts from the review
will be read by the writers at the event, and copies of the publication will be
available for purchase. The event is free, and book lovers are invited to
attend. Some material, however, may not be appropriate for children.
Water~Stone Review, now celebrating its fourteenth
year, is an annual review published by The Creative Writing Programs at Hamline
University. It includes trend-setting work that represents the artistic
excellence of a proud Midwestern literary tradition. The 2011
Water~Stone
Review includes contributions from writers such as Brenda Hillman, Ed Bok
Lee, Alberto Rios, Lidia Yuknavitch, Alamgir Hashmi, Eleanor Lerman, Andre
Perry, and Joyce Sutphen.
“The writers in the new issue of
Water~Stone Review
explore the rich range of mythic journeys we take as humans: from child to
adult, male to female, civilian to military, single to partnered, and birth to
death,” said Mary
Rockcastle, director of the Creative Writing Programs at Hamline and editor of
Water~Stone
Review. “The work, written by emerging, mid-career,
and well-known writers, includes this year's award winners in creative
nonfiction, an interview with fiction writer Richard Bausch, book reviews, and
the annual
Meridel Le Sueur
Essay.”
Water~Stone Review is geared to the curious reader
who prefers a range of style and voices, intelligent and lively discourse and
strong, original writing. It publishes work in all genres, as well as
essay/reviews and writers’ interviews. It has won several Pushcart Prizes, been
selected for
Best American Poetry, and won a bronze award for design
excellence from the Minnesota Magazine Publishers Association.
The Creative Writing Programs at
Hamline University is a nationally recognized leader its field, and Hamline is
the only university in the United States to offer three fine arts degrees in
creative writing. They include a master of fine arts in creative writing, a
master of fine arts in writing for children and young adults, and a bachelor of
fine arts in creative writing.
