A wet field did little to slow Aileen Scheibner down Wednesday afternoon. The first-year player from Woodbury, Minn. celebrated being named MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete Of The Week by scoring three times as the Pipers stayed undefeated at home with a solid 4-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus. Ir marked the first time a Piper women's soccer team has ever beaten the Gusties. Perhaps even more important is this fact: Hamline is now 8-3-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the MIAC, just three points out of the final playoff position.
Scheibner's hat trick effort marked the first time a HU player had scored that many goals in a MIAC game since Jo Smith did it against St. Catherine's in 2005. She also took over the MIAC lead in Goals (11) and Points (26).
A heavy afternoon rain made things a little messy at Paterson Field. After a slow start, the pace picked up in the middle of the first half. Scheibner started her scoring parade when she took a pass from Corinne Henning (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) and launched a long shot that caught the car corner of the net at 33:32. Eight minutes later, Henning fed Scheibner perfectly for a breakaway and a 2-0 halftime lead.
Gustavus scored on a penalty kick early in the second half but Scheibner won a race a loose ball and tapped it into the net at 75:33 to make it 3-1. Allyse Eide (So., North Pole, Alaska) capped the scoring with a long shot five minutes later. It was her first goal of the season.
Liz Stock (Sr., Savage, Minn) recorded seven saves in goal to earn the victory.
Hamline remained undefeated (3-0-3) at Paterson Field this year. They stay home to face Carleton Saturday at Paterson Field. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
