Schmitt Presents at Annual Conference

Lee Schmitt presented at the Geological Society of America’s annual meeting in Minneapolis this week. It was was attended by more than 7,000 geologists. Schmitt leads the Center for Global Environmental Education’s teaching inquiry-based Minnesota Earth Science Institute each summer. At the conference he served as chair of K-12 education on the local planning committee and facilitated a poster session entitled “Innovative Hands-on Geoscience Lab and Class Activities for use in Undergraduate Teaching.” Schmitt co-presented in the technical session “Effective Practices for Broader Impacts in K–12” and as a panelist for “Overcoming Threats to Earth and Space Science at K–12 Levels.” In addition, Schmitt co-authored one of the field trips for participants, “An examination of the bedrock geology and Mississippi River Valley in the Twin Cities: Pedagogical strategies for introductory geology field trips.”
