All season along, Hamline's women's soccer foes have been discovering that Aileen Scheibner (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) is having a great first year. Today, the MIAC acknowledged that fact by naming her the Women's Soccer Athlete Of The Week for games played October 3-9.
She is the second Piper to win the honor this year. D/MF Courtney McMoore (Sr. Minneapolis, Minn.) also was named in late September .
Scheibner, who is second in the league in goals (8) and points (20) scored three times in two games last week. She had a pair of goals in a 3-3 tie with UW-Stout. She netted the winner in the second OT Sunday as HU edged Saint Mary's 2-1. It was her second game-winner of the year and helped the Pipers improve to 7-2-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference, good for eight points, just three points out of fourth place -- the final playoff position.
The East Ridge High School graduate is one of the reasons for this improvement. She leads Hamline in nearly every offensive category. Her two goal outburst against the Blue Devils was her second of the season. She also had a pair in the season opener, a 5-0 win at UW-Superior.
Scheibner and her teammates have a pair of home games at Paterson Field
this week against Gustavus (Wednesday at 4 p.m.) and Carleton (Saturday
at 1 p.m.).
