As has been the case most of the season, Hamline's defense hung tough all afternoon at Macalester. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't follow suit and the Pipers lost, 17-0, to the Scots in the battle for The Paint Bucket.
Led by QB Connor Sathre (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.)'s 59 yards, the Pipers gained 117 yards on the ground. But they managed just seven completions for 90 yards in the air. Defensively, John Yates III (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) took advantage of getting the start to record a game high 11 tackles. John-Michael Vandenberg (Jr., Bothel, Wash.) was close behind with 10.
A late first quarter field goal was the only scoring of the first half. The Scots added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter. Hamline did an impressive late drive, ringing up five first downs and advancing to the Mac 26 before losing the ball on downs.
Hamline, now 0-4 overall, returns home to Klas Field next Saturday to host Gustavus Adolphus. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
