David Croonquist had a full day of tennis Friday. And he must have enjoyed nearly every second of it. The HU junior from North Oaks, Minn. defeated two players -- including a No. 14 seed on his home court -- to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2011 USTA/ITA Regional Singles Championships Friday at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn. On the doubles side, Croonquist and Becker won twice as well. That earned them a 3:00 p.m. Saturday date against Gustavus' Brooks Stapleton and Ryan Hallsten. A win would send them on the court at 4 p.m. for a semifinal affair. That title match is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Bernard Mitambo (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) won a pair of matches in singles (including a 10-7 win in the third set of his second match) before losing in the third round. Becker won his first singles match before falling in the second round.
